I am an Instrument designer and have to provide drawings for oil rigs offshore which go to technicians who then complete the work based on my drawings. Currently however there is a lack of design work due to the decline in oil price therefore I am carrying out what is called "As-Building" on a daily basis . This is updating master drawings to the status that they are built to offshore.
Before I started I had never used the software AutoCAD now however I would say I am fairly proficient at the programme. I also am regularly updating my technical knowledge on a daily basis.
I am enjoying my role within AMEC foster wheeler as well as my team and the company culture. So far the role has exceeded my expectations.
I feel valued on my project with me being given work to complete that is important for the company and the client.
The programme is extremely well structured having received an induction. As well as this I have constant support from a mentor and a buddy system put in place by the company.
Due to my newness of the role I haven't yet met my tutor.
I have access to a HR team on my project as well as an external corporate HR team and many other who I feel are supportive and would offer help / guidance if required.
Even With the high cost of living in Aberdeen my salary does meet my costs.
The activities outside the company are extremely vast and extensive.
