  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Remediation Consultant I work with our clients who have identified errors in their systems/processes which means customers have suffered financially. My day-to-day role is working with the FCA, our client and their customers to ensure the issue has been remediated.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt many new skills, such as a knowledge on UK financial services and different products offered within financial services. I've also developed skills such as team work and communication. My role is very team based and currently I form part of a skilled person review team, this means that everything I do revolves around team members and my communication skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme a lot. The exposure EY and my role has given me is not the norm for an apprentice with 18 months experience. I've been exposed to new tasks almost every week and the work that I do is very rewarding as it often means vulnerable customers receive compensation they didn't know was due as they may have been misinformed for example.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation of my programme from an EY perspective is very good. However, from a Kaplan (training provider) perspective there could be some improvement. Our talent coach is very good, however it appears he has too many students and it is often difficult to receive an immediate response/progress things as quick as we would like.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support from EY is fantastic. We have counsellors who are there 24/7 for any work or non-work related matter. We have access to medical facilities for medical condition'. We have continuous check ins about our mental health and on a whole all staff I have worked with have wanted to support and help me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • During my qualifications (CII Exams) the support was good. We had a point of contact from Kaplan regarding any questions we may have and closer to our examination date we had mock exams with our coach. Regarding our End Point Assessment in order for the first half of our apprenticeship to have been passed we needed to complete a series of interviews. Our prep for this could have been more in depth.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification was 'Compliance Risk Officer'. Both my academic side and portfolio side of this qualification focused on regulations/regulators and financial services. Given that I work with the FCA and pension on a day-to-day basis, I consider my qualification to have helped my performance significantly. The content learned during the past 18 months has helped me in my role a lot.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are lots. I've represented EY's football team in a charity football tournament alongside other companies, I have attended CSR events such as charity walks and I'm also part of a consultant forum. This allows me to work with the leadership team and help them improve the apprenticeship programme for future recruitment intakes.
