I enjoyed my work experience at Ernst and Young thoroughly and would highly recommend that anyone who is yet to complete their work experience and is looking for a valuable and practical work experience to try for Ernst and Young as I developed skills and gained knowledge that no other place of education has taught me
My work experience was extremely organised, with a schedule of what tasks were going to be included at what times of the day in every day of the experience, given to us in a briefing the few days prior to the start date that informed us of everything that we were to partake in.
I learned a great amount on what the working environment is like at a place like Ernst and Young certainly due to the business experience week whereby we shadowed an employee of the firm to see what sort of work they do on a day to day basis including the work and client meetings
Whilst the work experience didn’t solely help me make my decision as I already had a good idea on what I wanted to do, it certainly helped me achieve a better view on what all my options are as there was loads with help with future choices and it allowed me to be sure of exactly what I wanted to do
Yes, we were paid for the work experience at an hourly rate of £6.60 approximately and there were 3 weeks of work experience with 8 hour days. Because the work experience was split between Reading and Southampton all my travel expenses were reimbursed provided I showed the receipt of travel
There were an abundance of opportunities to meet new people in the industry including partners of the firm , employees , managers , former workers , the accounting exam board and so on. In every scheduled day , we met at least 3 new staff members that helped us through the day and allowed us to ask as many questions as we needed
Yes
It was an unforgettable experience that taught me many things I otherwise would not have learnt, gave me the chance to expand my network and allowed to me to have an affirmative decision on the career path I want to take. Not only was it useful and practical but it was also paid and very fun
Make the most of the experience and every single day that’s planned, take notes that you will be able to look back on, ask as many questions as you possibly can, put your all into completing every task to the best of your ability, and enjoy yourself as it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity
