Trainee Electrical Designer. I work alongside electrical engineers and designers, producing design deliverables using AutoCAD. These include schematic diagrams, single line diagrams, cable schedules, cable routing layouts. These all require to be completed within set timescales to ensure the project runs efficiently and on time.
I have become more efficient and confident using AutoCAD and have been introduced to using PDMS. I've also developed my interpersonal skills by working in a large team and liaising with other departments.
I thoroughly enjoy the trainee programme. Learning 'on the job' has been very beneficial to develop my skills. I've been on various training courses and had a site visit in the short time I've been here. I'm also being enrolled in college to gain an accredited qualification.
I feel valued by the company to be put through various courses to develop my skills. I've also attended funded events which makes me feel more valued and included.
The programme is well organised and structured, and the support given is great. We each have designated buddies and mentors to help with our development. The only criticism would be the time it's taken to be enrolled in college, as I'm aware that other companies with similar programmes were enrolled about 3 months before us.
In the work place the support is great and available anytime. However the college support from the official training provider has not yet started.
Everyone I work with who helps with training are all very supportive and encouraging.
Moderately well.
The company has a large graduate and trainee community which always has charity/volunteering/social events on the go. It's a great way to meet people from other offices you otherwise wouldn't meet. On a project level there are social events every so often, and more formal events like townhalls to keep us updated with the company's performance etc.
Yes
Large company with great benefits and opportunities for development and global motility. Supportive environment for developing your chosen career.
From when I applied to when I heard back from Amec FW did take a while so don't be disheartened if you don't hear back immediately. Interviews and assessment days are more relaxed than I expected so nothing to be too nervous about.
