I work as part of the HR Systems team to be able to run reports for various stakeholders in the business. I also look after the data that is held within the MyHR system for all Costain employees. I carry out regular data checks and correct errors where this is needed.
I have learnt more advanced skills in Excel, and also to be able to do data imports into the MyHR system of employees salaries, hourly rates and working hours. I have also learnt how to use a variety of software, including Power BI which is used to create dashboards with data.
I enjoy learning with my training provider and internally at Costain as i am able to learn new skills and apply them to my role within the HR department. I work well with the rest of the HR team to be able to carry out tasks efficiently and to the best of my ability.
The programme is well structured with providing us with a training schedule with all of the training dates and topics on. The training is organised with examples and powerpoints to use for revision purposes. The support that Estio give is very good and my support coach is very helpful and understanding
I receive a lot of support from my team and other colleagues who understand that i have my own coursework and studying to complete as part of my apprenticeship. i am able to ask for support from my team and my support coach if i need this to help me.
My learning support coach is very supportive and always answers my queries promptly and gets back to me with the information that i need. She enjoys helping and supporting me which is evidently shown through catch up calls and meetings. I am able to ask her for feedback on my work
I feel that i am able to apply some aspects of my course to my current role, however my apprenticeship is in the IT sector, as i work in the HR department this is difficult to practise some examples of my learning as i do not have access to SQL databases
There is not many extra curricular activities to get involved in at my place of work. There is sometimes a team activity that has been organised which we can attend. The company has some benefits such as gym discounts and a BUPA scheme for employees to choose to take part in.
Yes
Costain is a great place to work and meet new people. Taking part in the apprentice scheme is a good way to learn and work at the same time, working in Costain has allowed me to meet other apprentices and to work with a variety of different stakeholders and departments within the company
I would encourage people to be themselves when considering applying for a role within Costain. The people at Costain are very friendly and the application process is now done mostly online so this is easier for people to be able to follow and not get confused. The HR and Recruitment team are always happy to discuss any issues you might have.
