I am a Trainee Piping Designer at Amec Foster Wheeler. My daily tasks include back drafting, modelling in PDMS, issuing documents, and creating drawings in AutoCAD.
Since starting my apprenticeship I have developed my AutoCAD skills and I have received PDMS training. Within my first month I had the opportunity to attend both a AutoCAD and PDMS course. Within the next year I will also attend course at college in order to complete my apprenticeship.
I really enjoy my job and would recommend the programme to anyone that has an interest in a piping design career. I have received training and plenty of support from colleagues and my mentor.
I feel very valued within my team.
The programme is well organised, I have received training in order to carry out my daily tasks. I will also attend college courses to develop my skills and to gain an appreciation of the Oil and Gas industry. During the programme you are assigned a buddy and a mentor to help you throughout your training.
So far during my apprenticeship I have not attended any of the training/college courses.
I have received plenty of support from my employer, all staff are friendly and approachable with any problems/questions I may have.
The salary package meets all my costs and is very generous.
There are plenty of opportunities to take part in outside of work, there is a social committee which organises events for all trainees/graduates to attend.
Yes
I would recommend Amec Foster Wheeler to a friend as I have received plenty of training and really enjoy my job.
During the application process you have to be patient, the application forms normally are live from January and you have to wait until March/April before you hear back if you have been successful. If you have been invited to an assessment day you have to make sure you are a team player but can also work well individually.
