My general day consists of carrying out essential maintenance throughout plant. This involves walking down jobs, carrying out pre job briefs and organising my tools for each job. My day is spent with a trained technician who takes me through the job, explaining and showing me how the job is done while allowing me to improve my skills and knowledge by being on the job. Day to day work can differ greatly which makes it very enjoyable being on different jobs and working on equipment that helps power the grid to all our homes and businesses. The training I have been given so far on my apprenticeship has been exceptional - with technicians going above and beyond to help me do better within my role. A great apprenticeship I would recommend to anyone. 10/10.
My hands on skills are continuously improving aswell as my knowledge of plant. Every day I am seeing something different or picking up information to make me better within my role. I have learnt how to operate many pieces of Testing equipment aswell as other skills such as setting up limits on an actuator.
My programme is very enjoyable. I feel very supported within my job and get all the help I need when asked. Learning new skills and carrying out such a wide variation of work makes my day to day work very different- keeping it interesting. I look forward to the rest of my time on station.
The programme is very well organised. The work needed to do to satisfy the apprenticeship criteria was set out clearly by my employer and with the help and we'll set out documentation I was able to get everything done on time. My first two years of my apprenticeship was spent down south which taught me the foundations of my career before letting me on to plant. These two years were very well structured as it gave me the essential knowledge and hands on skills that I needed to take me into the station. Safety is a huge factor of my role which was clearly instilled to me the whole time.
Anything I need, I know my employer is there to help. I have never felt I can't go to my managers for anything. My concerns are always expressed and help is given when needed. My employer goes above and beyond for the employees of their company which I have experienced first hand.

All work that goes towards my qualification are relevant to my day to day job. Each job that is part of my qualification criteria has bettered me in my role. For many jobs I have had to make work packs along with write ups of the jobs. This has had me thinking more about the job I was doing which I can pick up information that I may not have known exactly during the job.
There's is a gym on site that is open to any employee. Also, there are mainly charity bake sales that we will take part in to help raise money. There has been a charity football team that was made up from employees. All very good extra curricular activities. Great.
Yes
It's a fantastic industry to get involved with. The company is supportive and great to work for. The apprenticeship itself is enjoyable and filled with potential knowledge and hands on skills to be picked up- if you put the work in. Getting into the company would never be regretted by anyone.
Be honest and show your interest. If you are having any doubts - don't hold back. It might me the best decision you'll make. Weigh Edf up against any other company your considering and I doubt Edf will fall behind any other company in any area. Go for it .
