  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My project for the first half of the year is mRNA qPCR stability assay. At the moment I am carrying out experiments most days to do with this project. I also maintain A549 cell line for my experiments.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Developed my presentation skills after completing a workshop. Developed communication skills with my team and other apprentices. I have learnt how to work well with different people who all work differently.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme, I love learning about my job whilst being in the lab. Also have enjoyed meeting new people and learning different things from all of them. It meets expectations and is as expected.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Everything is quite well organised. The study guide for uni of kent is well structured with a good layout however the layout for Aptem is quite confusing. have support from a wide range of people including my manager and mentor.

  • A lot of support from my employer. Lots of guidance from meetings and support is easily accessible.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Support is easy to access from lecturer and guidance is given when asked.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It does help day to day as a lot of things I learn about cross over to my job in the lab. It also gives me wider knowledge about molecular biology that I haven't learnt in the lab yet.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Lots of opportunities to network and get involved with different things. I am part of the apprentice charity committee. I usually go to TGIF and network with other people.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Good environment to work with a professional atmosphere. Really enjoyed my time here so far.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca?
  • Be optimistic of what you want, apply for more than one role and just be yourself when it comes to the interview because they're interested in you're personality as much as your qualifications.
