My role as a Maintenance Technician apprentice consists of working alongside trained Maintenance technicians that have worked in the role professionally and learning what the job consists of in order to become an asset to the company. Logsbooks of jobs that i have completed and taken part in must also be completed to use as evidence for my qualification.
I have managed to develop alot of skills that i had basic knowledge of from learning in the first year of the apprenticeship. these skills include fluid power systems, mechanical and electrical skills, which i have been able to use on a day to day basis whilst in placements around the factory.
I have enjoyed the programme very much, with the two most enjoyable things about the programme being the amount of new skills that i have been able to expand my knowledge of whilst in placements and also the amount of freedom that is available during the normal working day. I feel that freedom whilst working allows for you to find out more information about technologies and allows room for your own projects which can be used to impress management.
The structure of the programme is okay, but can be improved to better benefit the company with skill structure of the apprentice at the end of the programme. this would require that people in the training department have a better knowledge of what is important for each apprentices role when they are coming out of the apprenticeship by intergrating themselves better into the factory environment, instead of being an independant training school facility.
Support is an aspect that is shown throughtout the company and not only in the training department. If there is something that you need to be supported in such as extra intuition or information, then management will enquire into the quiry to true and ensure that the support that is needed is provided.
The training provider gives the support that is needed when asked. this means that if i did need any additional support on a subject that i was stuck on then they would provide me with the extra training that i needed in order to make sure that i could complete the assignments/tests.
My qualification allows for me to use the basic knowledge in my role, with a large portion of the content not being able to be applied to a practical application. however the information that can not be applied does sometimes aid in the understanding of problems that may be present on systems and assemblies.
There are plenty of activities to get invloved in at work such as a work football team, the on site gym and professional networking events. this allows for a good working relation with employees inside and outside of work, leading to a happier working environment and allows for networking between employees.

BMW Group has a number of benefits that when added to the great wage and supportive working environment makes for a great place to work. Benefits include a company car, on site gym and world class training which means working for the BMW Group is even more satisfactory and enjoyable.
BMW has a huge range of apprenticeships, meaning that no matter what your interests are there is an apprenticeship to suit. Work experience would be the best place to start before applying for an apprenticeship to be able to get an experience of what goes on at Plant Oxford. This allows for an insight into what employees in a job role you are interested in do from day to day.
