  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a normal day on my apprentieship I will find myself learning a new skill, or new part of a skill I'm in the process of learning everyday. The way this is done is by taking on a new skill every week which for example could be anything from welding to turning on a lathe and each day I will further my experience in this particular skill getting better and better at it until I get to an above adequate level to please myself and tutors.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned plenty of new skills whilst on the apprenticeship this involves: being able to understand a higher level of engineering mathematics than before, welding, hand fitting, electrical fittings, electronic circuits, Soldering, Mechatronics, milling, turning and many more I will go on to learn. The speed in which new skills are learned on the apprenticeship is extremely impressive.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Everyday is a learning curve on the programme and I believe this is why I enjoy it as much as I day, the hours is something that still takes abit of getting used to and something I didn't like too much to begin with but now I am used to that I enjoy going to work, seeing the people I work with and experiencing a whole new day of education.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is extremely well structured and this structure translates to the apprentices in a very easy to understand way. The mondays are for Btec work and then tuesday to friday people progress their more practical skills, this works well as it gives a nice break between week to week and aids the structure very well, the only problem being the huge break between Btec days leads to it sometimes being a struggle to remember what you had learned the previous week.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The employer provides me and all other apprentices with as much support as we need. Their is frequent catchups to check in on us and make sure we are coping okay and on top of this if we ever are having trouble it only takes a quick word to get that help we seek. Being provided with brand new laptops, and access to an intranet full of helpful information before even asking for anything though shows just how helpful my employer has been.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider again help just as much. We have catchups with them every 3 months at tops and in between that we have indialogue conversations with them day in day out. The training provider are also always accessible through email and tend to respond really quickly so if we are ever struggling to gain a qualification they would definately always be there for us.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My training provider teaches me and all other apprentices the skills neccessary to be taken into the job role I am leading toward and therefore are almost soley responsible for how well I perform in that which up to this point seems very impressive, they not only teach us practical engineering skills but also share knowledge on professionalism in the workplace which is very helpful.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is an on site gym at my work which can be acccessed by anyone over the age of 18 for a subsidised price. On top of this there is more such as a charity sky dive and other experiences such as the three peaks challenge which we have been offered to take part in, this helps with networking as the people you meet are supper friendly and easy to stay in touch with.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's an amazing apprenticeship improving me as a person everyday, I already have suggested many friends and family to apply for apprenticeships with them similar to mine because of the way you are treated and the benefits working with them brings to everyday life. They're a huge company also who you feel very secure being a part of.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • Be outgoing, apply yourself and be professional. By doing all those things you will be a candidate they will take into high consideration. If you prove yourself to them whilst working for them they will see it and will definately commend as they always have with myself and others around me.
