During each 1 year placement I will demonstrate different Project Management and project control processes. These include: risk management, schedule management, daily meetings, customer and supplier meetings and operations management. During each year your responsibility will also grow as you take on more task in different projects.
I have learnt many new skills including stakeholder communication, Professional an personal development, risk management, the use of excel in a more advanced way and the ability to create a schedule using MS project.
This is my first year on the programme and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I have had so many new opportunities which have helped me to develop both personally and professionally. I continuously grow my network when working in different teams and visiting different sites.
The Project Management Degree Apprentice at BAE Systems is very well structures. You spend the first three months from September to December settling into the business and understanding your project before starting university. The university course is very well structured and works effectively enabling you to implement what you have learnt in your day to day tasks on your project.
The support from BAE Systems is impeccable, from your line managers to placement managers to the teams you work in, everyone is supporting your growth within the business. Many experience employees started as apprentices so they understand your journey and how to support you in order for you to succeed.
Support from the University of Portsmouth is great, you are provided with a personal tutor who is there to help with any concerns you may hav or to help in your understanding. The lectures are also outstanding and very attentive to your needs as working full time. There is also study support who are there to help give you some guidance on report structures. The library is also very helpful in understanding how to reference your work correctly.
Understanding the different methodology and process helps to implement them in the workplace more effectively.
There is a wide range of different activities to get involved in outside of work which helps to build your networks. There are also many different activates to do during lunch breaks at work for example, a running group and football matches.
Yes
I would 100% recommend BAE Systems because of the many opportunities the business presents. From an apprentice point of view its a great company to start your careers as they have many award winning apprenticeships and there are so many opportunities within the business when finishing the scheme. BAE Systems also have a very close community feel and it's one of the reasons it makes you feel proud to work for them.
One of my tips would be to be yourself, be well prepared and enthusiastic. Don't be scared when applying for a larger company like BAE Systems, I understand it can be overwhelming but their employees make you feel so welcomed and support and help you settle in straight away.
