I am in my first year of the apprenticeship course and have undertaken a role in project control. Our project is run on a monthly reporting cycle period so my day to day tasks change depending on the week. We look at schedule, risk and data.
I have been given so many opportunities to learn since joining the program. My team all have different strengths so we have played to that. In particular my knowledge of excel, macros and software have developed immensely.
In the beginning I found it challenging to digest large amounts of information in one go. Working for such a big organisation means learning a whole different work language. Now I feel a lot more confident and there has always been incredible support from the Early careers team.
The program has been running for five years now so they have had time to trial different ways of working. What I have found within this program is that they are extremely open to suggestions and improving the way it works. I am happy with the structure.
I get a lot of support from both the early careers team and my immediate line manager at work. My manager has been really helpful in linking my project work to my uni work giving me the full experience of on the job learning.
There is support from Portsmouth University if you choose to take it, lectures have said they are contactable during weird hours to accommodate for working people.
Not everything I do at uni corresponds to the workplace but there is overlap. There is also opportunity to tailor it to you as if you work with your placement manager you can take on opportunities at work that link with what you study at uni.
There are loads of extra curricular activities that you can get involved with for example in my first year I took part in leading the open evening to advertise the apprenticeship and grad schemes as well took part in the APM challenge.
Yes
Really good scheme, lots of opportunities to develop and excellent support system.
Show that you are willing to learn and take on opportunities.
