Working within a team to complete objectives working on both business objectives, whilst having strong support to achieve personal objectives as well. On a day to day, we will have regular meetings, and team collaboration sessions to optimise our efficiency. On the degree apprenticeship I've been in 4 different teams so far learning a huge amount about the financial services world and learning the theory in my specialism of data with Nottingham Trent university
In the last 18 months on the programme I've had phenomenal opportunities within the bank and learnt an exceptional amount of new skills, not least including business processes, professionalism, technical skills, interpersonal skills. The training, development and support has been fantastic at Santander. I really do find i'm learning something new everyday.
I had the opportunity to choose between going to university and doing a standard course or joining the apprenticeship scheme I'm so glad I chose the latter. The programme has taught me so much and I'm able to go into areas in the business that I enjoy the most. I wouldn't change my choice at all. At the same time as getting a degree which is paid for, I'm getting multiple years experience in a big organisation and getting a salary to. I enjoy the programme very much.
The support on the programme is excellent, the team organising the programme, have us (apprentices) interests at the forefront and it really shows, they want us to learn and be happy in our roles, the programme is structured well, with good balance between work and study. I have no problem.
As mentioned in the previous answer the support from Santander is fantastic, I get support from my line manager, my apprentice manager, the programme managers, there is also a buddy system where we are paired with an apprentice with more experience so if we have any questions or problems we can ask them too. Santander has great support networks for colleagues, including for BAME, LGBT, individuals with disabilities and Women in Business.
The support from the training provider is good, if I have any questions or need any support, they have been very helpful and supportive, this has been especially apparent in the difficult time we are all having with the coronavirus pandemic. The uni has done there very best to ensure we don't have a break in learning and at the same time we don't feel too over burdened. I feel that the uni and work complement each other well.
The qualification is good because it adds recognition to the studying, working and learning being undertaken on the programme. The work I have learnt at the uni has directly benefited the work I've done at santander. As I said before, by working and studying im getting the best of both worlds.
There are plenty of activities to get involved with, social activities do happen during work lunches and after work, we have discovery days where we have the opportunity and are encouraged to go and help out a local school or charity for a day. I've also been encouraged to go to networking events in the industry.
Yes
100% one of the best decisions I've made for my career. It's a combination of everything the training is fantastic the support is incredible. I've had the opportunity to meet and present to directors. They really want us to grow and develop in the business and I'm getting a degree. I really think that apprenticeships should be considered as a extremely viable alternative to university and I also think Santander is doing a great job with their programme.
Be yourself. Have passion for growth and development. Find out about the company and find out what's going on. Have confidence that they are not looking for the best, they are looking for those who are driven and want to grow in the company. Be excited about santander, your enthusiasm will be recognised.
