60% Of my time is spent doing project work. Project allocation changes every 6 months. Each project has a range of tasks covering the whole system life cycle; requirements and design, coding, testing. 40% of my time spent doing Uni and diploma work. Not quite so regularly I also spend time supporting outreach events to enguage and interest kids in the world of engineering.
Nothing major yet, but in first year and only been at company for 8 months. Have done a little bit of work in other languages e.g. php at Uni which has slightly expanded skills. Even during lockdown they have work with university to arrange remote lessons for us so we can continue to learn.
Can't wait for lockdown to be over so I can get back to work, and for the programme to get back on track. Have experience a couple other apprentice programs and this one is far better than any of them. There is community feeling with everyone on my programme and can tell everyone wants you to do well.
There is a solid base plan/idea to the program. However there's a lot of miscommunications and new people still being trained up that causes issues and delays. Can defintely see the improvements being made though. Dividing up responsibilities to more evenly balance the work load and support all apprentices.
At times, more support than friends or family. They always check in on you to see how you are and if you need any support. They've been very commodating and supporting to additional requirements that I have needed. Including arranging and paying for meantal health support and dyslexia testing.
We are given time during a normal, paid, working week to work on qualifacations with the support of more senior and experienced employees around us to support and teach us as we need. They've provided a lot of support fo mental health, both inside and outside of work. They've also provided the testing and support needed to help me get access to the things I'm entitled too.
I don't feel the qualifation helps me perform any better in my role, and is just a requirement to progress into higher levels of most companys, not just this one. That being said, I am only in the first year so I may learn more as I progress through the next 3 years.
There are, but often very limited places available. Most social events/activites are organised by employees for employees outside of work, without support of company. There's weekly football, and board games at lunchtimes. A couple times a week one employee runs sign language classes, which helps everyone to be able to comminucate. Even those who have hearing difficulties
Yes
They are an amazing company to work for and offer a huge amount of opportunities just within the company. Even if you wanted to go else where in the industry they give you a great starting point to get through the door and will give you the support you need.
Grades only say a little bit about you, be sure to show who you are and what you can do. Whether that's sporting achievements, work you've done elsewhere, or personal projects that you're super proud of. They want good people who can join the company, not just grades
