As a flight systems engineer my day to day role is never the same. The role involves varies different tasks including requirements writing, supplier management, customer engagement, establishing test requirements, test configuration management and formal engineering report generation.
Yes. Everyday is a learning day as part of the apprenticeship and I have learnt a range of different skills, as well as obtaining a range of educational certificates, including a BEng in Aerospace Engineering.
The programme is fantastic and I would recommend it to any who is considering an apprenticeship as a career path following Sixth Form or even GCSE's.
The programme has a programme manager who oversees the complete programme but their is also Skills coaches who are available on a day to day basis. Overall, the course has excellent structure.
There is loads of support as part of the programme, from both the educational aspects and work wise from the likes of our peers and line managers.
There is loads of support from the training provider, who are available for weekly meetings, daily calls and available most of the time on e-mails. This was also reflected by the management of each placement who supported the educational aspects of the work.
The BEng (Hons) Aerospace Engineering degree, alongside, the Diploma qualifications obtained as part of the apprenticeship have helped in my day to day roles significantly.
Engineering events, STEM events, sport teams are all part wider working social groups, should you be interested in joining them.

The apprenticeship route at BAE Systems is an excellent way to obtain valuable working experience, whilst also working towards further education. I would highly recommend this route.
I would highly recommend applying. Ensure that as part of your application process you sell yourself but also demonstrate that you have a passion for the apprenticeship role that you are applying for, knowing a bit about the business and products may also help you with application.
