Carrying out maintenance on plant items, such as pumps, valves & diesels. These jobs include completely overhauling the plant items checking them for the tolerances replacing components on them and manufacturing components if required.
Along with improving my current skills I have gained alot of new skills, along with qualifications such as Level 2 & 3 NVQ, HNC in engineering, Level 2 Institute of leadership and management.
The team I work with have all been very welcoming, most having gone through the apprenticeship themselves so are very supportive. EDF as a company puts safety first to ensure you aren't hurt when working.
It is very well structured having been going for the last decade, with two years on a residential course studying away, then the two years on site, with being placed on a whole range of jobs.
Lots of support with yearly occupational health checks, stress and well being assessments, 6 weekly appraisals, a range of material online too help us.
With assessors being embedded within our teams and having a coordinator who's sole job is to look after the apprentices there is a lot of help.
With the company allowing us to achieve these qualification it makes us perform and take more pride in the work that we carry out therefore a better standard of work is being completed.
During the residential period of the apprenticeship there were many opportunities which included trips abroad, sports clubs, charity fundraising, along with going to events to promote the apprenticeship.
Yes
As they have looked after me as an apprentice with giving me a training platform for a career in engineering maintenance.
The application process included, initial screening of a CV, then psychometric testing along with a skills test and interview which we had to deliver a presentation. If you are able to undertake some work experience on site this would be advisable. Learn about the power station and EDF as a company prior to the interview.
