  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Data Engineers create, maintain the connections within the architecture of data sources to models or different domains in the business. Day to day I fix pipeline bugs, create data source documentation, I also look after the tickets for visibility of all incoming business requests. Quality checks and data cleaning are a weekly event split over a number of the team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying the programme that company is offering. As a company, there is a positive attitude and culture. The teams all seem close knit and there is room for people to challenge openly. The programme has beaten my original expectations and I am really enjoying working here. The training provider could do with some work on communication and proactively organising modules.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Induction was very efficient and the people in HR were on the ball with communication and getting all requirements in place for our first day. Training is nicely spread out taking one module at a time which is more focused. managers allow support with both work and apprenticeship tasks. regular meetings are set up with apprenticeship skills coaches and you are assigned a mentor at the company if you need someone to turn to outside of your team.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Tutors can vary, some can be very helpful by providing further materials and in-depth reviews while others simply tell you to refer back to the course content which doesn't help if you are stuck on that content.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The core modules set you up for a solid base of knowledge around Digital and IT job roles. Which won't necessarily help with day to day work. Specialist modules which are taken when following your chosen pathway really help expand your knowledge in the job role you have been placed in.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yeah there are plenty. I have signed up for a number of them however not managed to actually attend any yet for personal reasons. There is a big social event presence as well as local community volunteering opportunities. I am interested in a number of the sports clubs they have but not living near by makes it difficult to attend these without sacrificing getting home late.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Vodafone to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • onsite canteen is a great place to break away from your desk, grab some food and socialise with team members or others. the campus is large and exclusive to employees which helps give a feeling of security as well as there being a track around the outside if you wish to escape your desk for a walk with a colleague for a break.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vodafone?
  • Research into the company try to find out what they are doing in the world at the moment. Try to remain calm at the assessment day the activities are there for you to showcase your abilities as well as how well you work with others. Respect the other people also going for a job as you will be in the same cohort for 4 years.
