I manage a portfolio of corporate customers and I am their primary point of contact. I work with Relationship Directors and other key stakeholders. I help to introduce solutions and products to my customers, working with product partners where necessary. I also support with more operational matters such as bank mandates and online banking queries.
Yes, I have improved skills such as stakeholder management, communication skills (written and verbal), organisation skills and my knowledge of banking in general.
I initially enjoyed it however it has been very badly managed towards the end of the programme, with no clear structure in terms of rolling off the apprenticeship.
Not very well structured or organised. We are left to our own devices and I do not feel that we received enough support from the apprenticeship managers.
My line manager is supportive however I do not feel that Barclays is supportive in general. There are continous hiring freezes and difficulties in terms of moving around which is not good for development and does not make you feel valued as an employee. The apprenticeship managers do not know much about my programme and the roll off process has been inadequate.
Support from the training provider has generally been good, with regular calls.
My day to day role and the qualifications I study do not compliment one another very well although this has been improved to some extent in recents months.
Yes, there are various social and professional networks at Barclays.
No
Overall I would not recommend Barclays to a friend because of the continuous restrictions in terms of moving positions (e.g. hiring freezes) which is counterintuitive for development. When these measures are not being practiced, Barclays is an enjoyable place to work.
Ask as many questions as possible at the interview stage so that you can understand if the role is a good fit for you. Emphasise any Citizenship activities that you have undertaken.
