  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have daily meetings and I get given tasks to complete. These tasks have a deadline which it needs to be completed by. In conjunction with this , I have learning tasks to be completed which is given by the university/trainer. The tasks can be sometimes highly repetitive for example you can get many of the same tasks to do with debugging other peoples code.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The have mixed feelings for this programme . This is firstly because the tasks given are extremely repetitive and there is nothing innovative to do with the tasks given and theirs no space for creativity. The teams and management , are highly unresponsive and takes them a while for them tor respond to issues. However , the apprenticeship coordinator is extremely helpful and does whatever they can to help with all apprentices.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure and organisation with the training aspect (University of Strathclyde) is not very good. This is because they give a large amount of work to do and expect it do to it in a quarter of the time as they give the same deadlines as they're own student. Also , my current development team has no manager so currently there is no organisation in tasks given.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Not much support received from the management since they are extremely lazy and don't put much effort in helping and in giving support. However , apprentice coordinator is absolutely amazing and will do whatever they can to help solve and issues you are having and tries to fix any organisation issues.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training tutor is very helpful and does answer many technical issues to do with work and tasks given. However , does take a couple of weeks to reply but overall is very helpful. The attitude of the tutor is very positive and enthusiastic. I do thoroughly enjoy the training and support given.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification is enormously helping me to perform much better with my role. This is because the tasks given from the company and from the trainer do overlap and so you can easily apply what you are taught to problem solving and to development tasks given from the company.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There inst many extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work. There is only maybe 1 social activity available such as a professional networking event available. There needs to be an increase in the amount of activities and the variety of these events such as by adding sports or volunteering.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • This is because even though there is great opportunity to learn and to experience both learning and applying in practical situations , the work isn't very fulfilling and doesn't make much of an impact. There are many more other companies that provide the similar thing but with better management and better culture and environment with the addition to create meaningful work from the beginning.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • To try be very enthusiastic and show a great passion in the field you are applying for by possibly showing your experience and possibly your very own projects. Furthermore , you should show your confidence and how well you work in a team by importantly being a great listener and give valuable responses in assessment days.
