My role is Data Analyst Apprentice within Vodafone Business IT. I am sat within the Data Architecture. My day to day job varies but at the moment it is looking at Data Architecture within Digital Marketing.
I have basic SQL and Python skills however I do not get to utilise this in my day to day job. I am able to create Conceptual/Logical/Physical data models as well
I have had a unstable journey at Vodafone. I have sat in 5 teams all together and still do not manage to have consistent 'data work'. There is little cohesion between the learning/training provider and Vodafone as there is a lot of back and forth as we do not have the work in office so have to create the work for portfolio from Data we use within the Business. When i joined there was not a lot of introduction to the business itself either
Trying to find the work to fit the criteria is hard and normally with little or no help as there is not a demand for the work. My first skills coach from QA was replaced as the support he provided was not adequate. There is little cohesion between the criteria and the job role. I also know some people who are not able to get there 20% a week to work on portfolio.
Our Apprentice Manager is incredibly helpful however there are issues. We weren't aware we had a HR Point of Contact for over a year. The lack of cohesion between programmes and the roles we are placed in can definitely slow down progress. My manager tries to help but there is a lack of time I can spend with him.
I have personally found the support on the training weeks incredibly helpful. There are some teachers within QA who do put a lot of effort into your learning and support and when I have needed help from them outside I have had 121 calls with tutors.
There has been 1 week of training out of 7 which I feel has helped me in my day to day role. Some of the weeks are great but where I won't have a chance to implement it, it feels slightly redundant.
I personally have joined the Youth Committee at Vodafone Group which is a relatively new but is the extra curricular work which fills my time. This is events such as LGBT events/helping the onboarding of new Youth etc. There is also a gym at work which is brilliant.
Yes
I would recommend Vodafone as a company for certain Apprenticeships, Data Analysis I wouldn't but I would for Software Engineering. I feel like some Apprenticeships are much more suited to the Vodafone way of working and what we have in office
The apprenticeship style here is very much go and get it yourself and teaching yourself (for the qualification rather than your job role), if you like this learning style, then definitely apply.
