I work proactively to identify and mitigate potential threats that pose a risk to the business. Day to day activities include the monitoring of suspicious domains and leaked credentials, participating in incident related work with affected parts of the business, and producing intelligence reports and notifications for distribution to the wider business
I have definitely learnt an array of new skills so far over the course of my apprenticeship. The courses provided by QA teach me in depth knowledge on specific cyber related topics such as open source intelligence and network/security+ modules, which complements the skills picked up through day to day work.
I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship. Having such vast exposure in a large corporate company is invaluable, working with a team full of great people who are all very supportive. The off the job training compliments my day to day work and gives you a great balance between content learned and real world experience
The programme is structured well, with ample time given between courses and coursework set without it having an impact on learning on the job or falling behind in your day to day tasks. The organisation between skills coaches could be a lot better though, as they can often be hard to get in contact with.
I receive as much support as I need from my employer. If I need more time away from day to day tasks, as long as I tell my manager and have that conversation, I am able to focus more on coursework when need be. My employer also runs a lot of additional workshop sessions.
As previously said, my employer always gives me the 20% off the job training time to work towards my qualification through coursework and revision. I usually take a dedicated day away from my on the job role per week to focus on this and can be allowed more time when necessary
All of the training courses are very relevant and relatable to my role, and I have been able to directly apply knowledge learned from each to my role. Learning material to qualifications such as network and security plus also gives the opportunity to pick up additional qualifications if desired also
Yes there is lots. We often have team social events, whether it be a meal or drinks out, which help the team to bond together. As a company, they are often running events such as cyber get together where you can meet colleagues from other markets across the world, and cyber sports days!
Yes
They are a great company to work for, and support their apprentices to a good level. Being such a big company means there is so much room for exposure in different areas, whatever your interests may be. Also, talking to colleagues across the world each day is great and in general working with great people.
One of the key things is to show initiative and interest! As long as you have those two things along with being punctual and respectful, you will always give a great first impression. I would also say just go for it! Sometimes the apprenticeship vacancy’s can sound quite Vague and may not specify an exact role, but if you’re interested in the department the likelihood is you’ll love it!
