As a Field Team Leader (FTL) I manage a group of 15 meter technicians and 2 technical specialist. This involves performance management whilst also ensuring they are adhering to relevant company policies whilst operating in customers homes. I am based from home and will actively go see technicians on site whilst they are fitting Smart Meters/Meters in customer homes. As an FTL complaints are also an aspect that are dealt with, along with investigations where there a breaches of health and safety etc.
Whilst on this NVQ it has given me an excellent background and varying topics that are an aspect of my role from team dynamic, project planning, and team management models to name a few. Coming from a scientific background, this base knowledge is going to help my development throughout the rest of my career.
I enjoyed this programme with the aspect of being able to learn at my own pace from home with the use of the remit e-portfolio and Fuse. Regular meeting with my Development Coach were also helpful to embed knowledge to varying aspects, such as British core values. The 6 workshops were the best aspect of the course, as meeting up with other FTL`s and mangers from the office to discuss their learning and go through scenarios was helpful. It made you think in a different way. Also networking with other areas of the business was massive for me.
The programme is fairly well organised with use of the e-portofolio and fuse. However, the process of getting a development coach (DC) at the beginning was slow and tedious. I was initially given a DC for the midlands area, when I needed one in the north. Once this was sorted [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was excellent at helping me through the course answering any questions that I had.
The support from E.ON was excellent. Ample time was given to complete the course when I needed it. If I needed extra time or assistance at any point my line manager was readily available to help. Another aspect of support for me was asking the more experienced members of staff in my role and learning form them, with regards to scenarios presented on the course.
The support from Remit was the right amount for me. They guide you in the right direction and then it is down to you to go away and learn. The regular DC meetings were a great sound off to double check you were completing the relevant work required and to embed your learning.
This qualification will help me develop further and has put a name to many of the processes that I did as a FTL. This better understanding has helped my confidence in my role and decision making. Thus being able to trust myself more without the need to confirm I`m doing the right thing.
As a home worker and being a distance from any of the offices. Especially being 2 and half hours from the office where Field Operations is based it is difficult to get involved in any extra-curricular activities. I believe they may be communicated through connect. However, I am not aware that there are any.
Yes
They are an excellent company to work for with excellent employee benefits. They work hard to ensure employee job satisfaction is high. There is excellent learning opportunities and room for growth in your career. All your managers/colleagues are friendly and helpful and want you to be the best you can be.
Do it, don`t hesitate to apply you won`t regret it!!! my tip for applying would be - proof read everything. I`m sure there are some mistakes in this review that I have written. However, ensuring that your CV and covering letter are the best they can be is key in the beginning. This is the first time someone will see your name and it`s important to make a good impression.
