Accommodation Management - wellbeing, engagement of residents plus property management and health and safety management. I manage a team who deal with on site maintenance plus contract security officers and cleaning staff. I liaise with other departments in my company to organise cyclical and reinvestment works and with procured contracts for day to day requirements.
The programme develops existing skills and allows time to reflect and learn. I have done courses on Leadership, Managing People and building relationships, coaching and Mentoring, Communications and Self Awareness, all of which have allowed self study at my own pace and I can fit them around my work commitments
I enjoy the opportunity , away from the workplace to look at the skills need to develop and to have the opportunity to meet with colleagues doing the same study in order to share the learning experience and discuss issues and experiences. The Tutor is very good and engages the students.
To begin with it seemed quite confusing but I think that is because people signed up at different times and the person selling the concept was not fully aware of how the course actually works. Now we are underway, 6 months into it, , it is making more sense and flows better.
They were full of support at the beginning but did not understand the volume of work involved. They were initially expecting me to complete this with my usual workload during the usual working day. This was very difficult and I have now arranged a day off each fortnight to do the work and this works better for me.
The tutor is very supportive. She is contactable by phone if I have any questions and from I can see that she supports the different levels of need as required by individuals in the group. There can be conflicting messages if others run workshops , but now we know to follow her lead and complete the tasks as she sets them.
It has allowed me time and resources to develop my skills. I find that I am referring back to study modules or thinking about the subjects that we have covered and I am therefore sure that it has had a positive impact on my management style and delivery.
We go out occasionally, probably just a couple of times a year. Networking events do take place and staff can ask to attend. We work with partners and colleagues from other departments and I always try to ensure that staff can attend any training, meetings and roadshows locally whenever possible
Yes
It is a great company with values that I can relate to. It supports charity initiatives and works hard with young people and the unemployed to enhance their opportunities, organising 'Giving Something Back' events which all staff can attend. It works really hard at resident engagement and staff development - programmes like this.
If you think that you can work as part of One Team, and are definitely Customer Focused then this could be the employer for you . You need to work hard and show Respect for others, whether that be residents, colleagues or partners and also to be Enthusiastic about your job, your residents and whatever you are trying to achieve.
