As an apprentice Cable Jointer my time is split between on site training, college and the jointing school. When on site I am given a chance to experience all aspects of the job including fault finding and repair. As my qualification level has increased through the training program this now includes working on love cables and apperatus.
I feel I have am learning new things on a weekly basis. There are many aspects to the job and I feel the program is set up well to ensure that you do feel overwhelmed but there is always the information, advice and experience available to you to increase your knowledge.
I love the program and the job itself. It is a great blend of interesting, challenging and fun. The teams that help you on the way are helpful and well experienced and the wealth of knowledge available to you is very reassuring. I have found the experience so far very rewarding.
I would say it is well organised. Due to know fault of the company, one of our external training bodies had to be changed. This did lead to some big changes to the timetable but I actually believe that this lead to a better program with a better external training body for future apprentices
So far I have received all the support I need and believe this to be the case for everyone else that I have spoken about it with in my year group. There are teams and systems in place to help you with any aspect of your training or personal life that you may be struggling with.
Again, I feel that all the support required is on offer. There are teams and systems in place to make sure you are not falling behind or struggling. These include quarterly meetings with your learning manger where they check over your progress through the program and any issues can be raised.
Massively. The role that I am training for has the potential to be dangerous if carried out in an unsafe way. Through the training that I have received I have always had the knowledge and experience to be able carry out my role in a safe manner and effective manner.
There are some of these types of thing available and the role itself leads to you naturally forming bonds with your coworkers as you work as such a close team. Also during the periods you are at college there are multiple activities and team building events put on for you.
Yes
I feel they are an excellent company to train with and the role I am training for is very rewarding and interesting. I feel that the pay is fair and the training on offer is first rate. I feel that the potential of a long career is on offer to everyone who completes the program.
Go for it. There are a broad range of character types and experience levels in my year group and we have all bonded and form friendships. The knowledge that is available from the experienced jointers is first rate and in my experience, anyone who is willing to put a bit of effort in will be welcomed in.
