You are usually assigned a group of senior mainteance members to work with, you shadow them and depending on there personalities and what they are like usually depends on what more you can get than that, some mainteance are very friendly and will help you a lot spending time with them will improve you and then some mainteance really couldn't care if your with them or not
I have definitely learnt a lot while being on the course from there side i got my engineering qualifications, being honest i dont think i have used any of this in my day to day job however i do recognise the importance of having this qualification, The practical skills have been primarily self-taught which isnt a complaint as i think this is the way it should be It would be nice to be taught more advanced stuff but the real learning happens after the apprenticeship
I would be lying if i said i enjoyed this course there has been somedips throughout the course . This has been in partial blame on myself and some of my behaviours but i do belive that i have been mistreated unfairly in response to some of my actions, Some of the people are fantastic and did make me feel very welcome and i can say that this has improved through a change of advisor in 2020, the course isnt what i expected has been incredibly paper-work heavy with little to no focus on hands-on skills but again i realise this will come later on
A tale of two halfs in terms of structure there is no doubt at how improved it has been since a significant management shuffle in 2020, Since 2020 i havent had a singular concern about structure, I know where i am at all times now which is an improvement from some previous situations where you wouldn't know where you are because it isnt written down and then would lead to consequences against yourself
When i had a lot of personal issues pre managment change i have to be honest that i didnt feel supported at all and if anything i felt the opposite i felt as if certain staff truely had no heart in there actions against me, No one asked me questions with compassion However again i would like to say that since management change i have felt wanted and supported at this company and this has had a direct impact on my performance judging on the last year i would say 10/10 however because of previous actions from others 8/10
I got all qualifactions which i was supposed to get so in this way i cant complain for this regard however i will say that the practical skills arent superb they are adequate, the college we are with are generally competant with some notable exellent tutors in recent memory, i would say the inital organsation of the college wasnt to be desired however these issues did get ironed out
No i do not belive that the qualifactions gathered for the course are useful in my day to day role, this is an issue on a grander scale of engineering however and isnt the fault of the course or of the company As previously mentioned however i think some of the hands on skills could of been better taught to be useful out in the buisness
Earlier on in the apprentship there were plenty of oppurtunities to get involves with extra-curricular activites such as a self oranised football team and recruitment events however due to COVID these have ceased however this isnt anyones fault and im sure these will continue given time , there are a lot of options that the company could expand into here to support even the networking among apprentices
No
Althought the money is exceptional and a big postive there are better options within the engineering industry for progressing , the course although now well organised entirely cares about how much paperwork you can produce and is so overdone and draining any joy you can get from your day to day job as your constantly thinking about another write up you need to do, the eventual job role is great pay but unless changing career there is no real progression internally. The course is adequate but not exceptional nothing to rave about
Be prepared to comply in a militaristic way with certain members of staff as it is the only way to get through , When you find mainteance people who are willing to teach you something really make an effort to leach information off them as they can be few and far between
