I am a unix administrator, my daily tasks involve logging on to servers, and then making changes on them, creating accounts, creating directories, making changes on file systems etc. Generally just looking after servers. I normally talk to my line manager and SDMs daily (Service Delivery Manager) as well as having meetings with clients most days to discuss any problems servers may be having.
I am currently working towards my basic java qualification and also my basic linux qualification, java provided by training provider and linux provided internally. I can also work on unix now, AIX or Linux, which i wouldnt of had a chance of doing before i started.
I do enjoy it, i enjoy the work i am given, i really like my team and the variety of people i talk too. It has met my expectations very well, possibly even bettered my expectations.
I feel valued and always recieve feedback, whether good or bad all feedback is good.I am beginning to get very involved in projects and feel needed, as i am becoming good enough on unix to do so and now that i am getting good enough more opportunities are coming my way, making me feel more valued.
The program is structured well, when down in London everything is structured very well and is on time. There was a small wait whilst i was being put into my team which was a bit boring but that was because they were considering what would be best for me.
I receive a lot of support from QA, they help me every step of the way and my advisor is brilliant. When i have a problem i have a reply helping me out within a day and the attitude is very positive, never a problem with me asking a question.
They support me a lot aswell, i wouldnt know half as much as i do now if it wasnt for the support i have recieved from my manager and team, who are always easy to get hold of. And i always know between my team or HR person there is always somewhere to go if i need help.
Since i live at home and have a car which is easy to run the wage is more than enough for me, especially where i live as well. If you live in London however on your own paying for yourself you might find yourself needing to budget a lot more.
Yes there are plenty of opportunites to build up your network. Parties, meals, going for food at lunch all sorts happens and everyone makes you feel involved. The company events are always good but also your team will offer to do stuff outside of work as well.
Yes
Great company which offers you great opportunities and provides great beneffits. As well as starting with a good basic wage accenture gives you a lot of benefits, and opportunities to progress. Accenture cares about employees and a lot happens outside of work such as meals, parties, and generally just a great way to network.
Go in with an open mind and know that everyone around you only wants to help you, and never be scared to talk or ask to anyone, confidence is key. The opportunity is there for you but you will have to work hard to get it.
