  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • The work experience was over the course of 2 weeks. The first week consisted of getting to know the other interns and participating in a series of group activities that would later help us get our CMI qualification. We spent the next week actually participating in the workplace, which I did in the global office. This job consisted of me brainstorming with employees in EY from all over the world on what we could improve about certain programmes.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • For the first week of the internship there was a huge emphasis on working as a team and networking. Although I was already familiar with working with a team I did struggle with networking due to a prior lack of confidence, however everyday we were made to work with new people so this really improve my ability to network. Also this experience really improved my presenting skills as I had to do that quite a few times.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • I really enjoyed my experience and it even encouraged me to look for more similar internships. I learnt a lot about the Accounting industry and I also had the chance to become good friends with other interns and network with employees who I still keep in contact with today. I even wish that the internship was longer.

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • I would say that the work experience was very well organised. On the first week we were all equipped with our own laptops and accessories for the laptop that we even were allowed to take home with us. Also each and every intern (there were about 60 of us) were all given a job that Was most similar to our previously stated interests.

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • The first few days we learnt all about EY such as all their offices around the world and how many employees they have and also what companies work with EY. The second week we actually got to experience what it would be like to work there by having a 9-5 role and having a mentor coach us through what his everyday life is like where I had to help him with some of his tasks.

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • The work experience definitely helped me realise that I would like a job in the financial industry. Not necessarily the job role I was given in the work experience but still in the financial industry nonetheless. At first I was debating whether or not it was right did me but the experience solidified my thoughts on the industry.

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • I was in fact paid for the experience which was amazing as not only did I get to learn but I was also being paid to do so. I got paid around £450 just for the 10 days of work experience which to me was a lot and really helped me out at the time. I wasn’t reimbursed on my travel though which was quite high as I lived an hour away but that was fine.

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • Every single day we had a different panel of judges for the different competitions that we competed in. This was a great experience for us to meet new employees with different job roles and different academic pasts who talked to us about how they got to where they are. From this I was able to get a few employees emails and still contact them to this day

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I already recommended this programme to a lot of my younger friends who were looking for work experience as I had an overall great experience. The best part was that I was getting paid to have fun and meet new people whilst learning which is more than one can ask for.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • I would give people advice to be open to meeting new people and put yourself out there as there is a lot of talking to new people involved and so if your shy and don’t really like talking to newpeople try your hardest to get out of your comfort zone. Also make the most of your experience as it is a competitive internship and you are know if you get in you are very lucky.
