Involved with highways projects focussing on the pavement aspect of this, creating specs, producing pavement build ups and sorting drawing packages. I am also activley persueing the IEng as part of my course and so spending a lot of time to get additional experience in areas such as commercial ability and management

i have completed my Level 3 HNC and now am in my final year of my degree so have built up loads of theoretical knowledge for these courses, i have been on more specific design based specialised courses provided internally and over my 6 and 1/2 years in the company ive improved soft skills based on how to work well with people as part of a team or on your own. How to communicate via different mediums such as email, phone and face to face

I find it an excellent place to work, a great team of people who both support me through my studies and work. A company culture unlike no other where the well being of staff is paramount. you feel valued to work here. Before starting my only impressions of office life were from film and for certain it was nothing like that, however i enjoy it now as much as the first day i started, if not more now as i am far more capable in the work that i do

From the work side of things giving me the opportunities to succeed and gain experience from projects and attending training courses it is extremely well organised. My studying at the University is also ran well with plenty of interesting modules covered. There is a very fluid team hierarchy in that whilst there is a structure there of people of ascending responsibility you never feel like anyone is treating you as a junior, there is very much an equality with how people are treated and with each others views

Endless amounts of support from the company. If i am struggling with studying there is always someone on hand for me to question about the things im trying to learn. If there are areas of experience i feel i am lacking towards my IEng submission, i let people know and as soon as anything related to that comes up i am asked to do it to help gain relevant experience.

The support for achieving the degree is excellent, well managed and structured and even in this difficult time have catered very well. There are people there to answer any problems you may have as well. i really enjoy the course its interesting and has a lot of maths which i also enjoy.

I feel that it gives you the foundations to begin working providing you with a base knowledge that you then must continue to shape into the work youre required to do in our role. It also sets you up with the skills to get off your own back and learn something to solve a problem

Regular social activities, including football events other sporting events. We often go out for meals as a team and visit the pubs attending quizzes. As a team we do have a lot of organised events that we attend often subsidised by the company. I am the unofficial captain of our football team so i help to organise games and tournaments and pull teams together

Its the perfect place to work, a pleasant atmosphere to work in. Everyone is friendly and helpful in your development and socially. You get the opportunity to work on many interesting and often international projects. But the main thing that keeps you going is that everyday is different, there is very little mundane repetitive work that occurs so youre always on something new

Anyone applying for arup should be prepared for working in a place unlike anywhere else with endless opportunities to get involved with. Applying is straightforward, filling out the apprenticeship application, interviews are relaxed but you must be ready to prove youre willingness to learn and interest in engineering. I would like to be told how much i was going to enjoy working here and id have perhaps been less nervous on the run up to my first day
