I manage a team of 5 administrators and also manage the budget for our operations team. I review and re forecast the monthly budget, review with internal and external teams. I deal with daily escalations and tasks with in the administration team. Our team supports the whole of the orations department which creates a large work load to manage. We also support operational projects in ordering of equipment etc.
I have learned more about people management and behaviours with in a team. I have also picked up report writing skills and also new skills with in writing essays that i had not done in a long time. Also socialising with people out with the company who are all in the same position.
I find it tough to manage work load and uni though it had been enjoyable and will be worth it to get more experience and have an achievement that i never thought i would get the opportunity to have. All the work is fully explained and manageable and the support is great.
It is mostly organised and structured well. Being condensed in to a day can make some classes though and seem long though when the course work is kept interactive it is not so bad. I travel 3hrs to the university so it can seem like a long day, especially in winter months.
I have great support from my employer as i was lucky enough to have a mentor who is interested in my progress and helps out in anyway that she can. I have attended training courses that i did not think i would have the opportunity to do that have helped in my studies.
There is great support from the University and all of the staff in making the course work clear and easy to understand. There are all kinds of support groups which are available to everyone and are well known should you have any issues at all. Be it personal or study related.
It has given me a better insight to management and how large organisations work. It can be easy to be in your own bubble at work and not be part of the bigger picture. there are many hints and tips though out the course that relate well with my role and have helped make me understand it all better.
Yes. We work for a large organisation that has many hubs and head offices that carry out all sorts of activities and challenges or all staff. Walk/run challenges, bake sales, team building activities. There are health and well being groups and external companies that come in to do activities with us.
Yes
SSE work hard to retain their staff and have a good work ethic. I have been with the company for 13yrs and have worked in a few different sectors with in the business. there are so many opportunities and departments to work in that will give all sorts of work experience.
Read up on the company and make sure you have good knowledge of what we do. Decide on where you would like to start in the company and make sure your CV reflects your true work experience. Ask lots of questions and speak to as many people as you can about their experience to make sure it is right for you.
