My role is an apprentice Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Technician. I observe and assist where appropriate the maintenance operations and maintenance procedures that are carried out daily to keep the site operating.
I have learnt new technical skills from observing and carrying out maintenance on different plant equipment as well as developed skills such as communication and teamwork skills as the work on site is usually carried out in small teams.
I enjoy my programme as I work with an excellent team that are more than willing to help me develop during my apprenticeship and I have a great interest in the work that I carry out.
The programme is well structured as I receive the correct training where required and the support from work and my training provider is there if required. I also have plenty of time for studying to complete any assignments.
I can always go to my manager for support if I require it and they will always assist me in any way possible, other members of my team are also very supportive and have been very helpful so far in my apprenticeship.
My tutor at my training provider is very willing to help and I am able to contact them at any time with any problems that I have to do with work or gaining my qualifications.
After completing my first year at my training provider it felt like I had some basic knowledge that I could use at work, I use the basic skills that i learnt at college on a day to day basis and they have helped me throughout my apprenticeship.
There are no extra-curricular activities.
Yes
SSE is an excellent company with the facilities to provide a great environment for learning and developing during an apprenticeship. They have good company rules and morals and overall is a great place to work. The team I work with couldn't be better and are always there for support.
Stay calm and be yourself during any interviews. Don't be afraid to ask questions as everyone is very friendly and relaxed.
