The job role includes many different tasks, there are some which have to be completed every week and others that are carried out on a monthly basis. These tasks include base and pontoon checks. Our role also include tasks offshore however this environment you help with the tasks rather than carry them out yourself so you can learn how to do things safely.
I would like to think that there is a mixture of both some of the existing knowledge and skills I had have come in handy when carrying out basic tasks, there has also been the opportunity everyday when working to learn new things or the way something works/operates and techniques.
I love working for sse and having the opportunity to learn new skills and be a part of such a great team, I love the challenges I have faced and how supportive the team and the company is. I love how comfortable I instantly felt with all of the guys.
I think it is very well organised we have a very clear plan of what we are working to and learning we have a review period every 13 weeks which allows us as apprentices to address any issues that we have or potentially may have we also have a clear plan of what training is needed and when
The managers, supervisors and the guys are very supportive I can ask them anything I need to there is never a stupid question. They will also go the extra mile to make sure we feel comfortable and have the support that we need and the advice. they are very helpful.
The college is very good at setting work however some of the classes can be very unclear as they don't really have a plan when lessons are taken over. The guys at work are fantastic at helping with college work and making the questions clear again. they are also very helpful with comparing our college scenarios to real life which gives us great insight.
I feel that college helps us to have a better understanding of how certain things work, i feel that the hydraulic side of college that we have completed was relevant to our job as it relates to systems that we use however the other classes are not as relevant to our job role but it good information to have
I have been to the staff Christmas party that was a hilarious and wonderful time it was nice to meet everyone out of work and be able to learn abit more about the people that I work with i also participated in the opening of the energy centre representing sse

the advice i would give is to be confident and be yourself, there are always things to learn so take that on board and try to take on board everything do the research and learn about the company as much as you can, apply at every chance you get as it shows you are keen
