I shadow electricians and help in any way I can, I mainly work on domestic properties and as I have progressed I can and am learning to do more things. I am now left to fit sockets and pendants etc for them to be checked after I have finished to make sure I have done everything correctly and to a good standard.
Yes I have learnt many new skills and continue to do so every day. Before I joined the company my knowledge and understanding was little to none but now I not only know what I'm doing I know why I'm doing it and how it all works. My skills have developed and now I can do certain things without surveillance and them being checked afterwards.
I very much enjoy the programme and I also get along well with the other apprentices and electricians. I enjoy learning and developing my skills and watching myself progress throughout the apprenticeship. College is also good I am learning a lot and understand how a lot of things work. I really enjoy the programme.
Extremely well organised, I always know when and where I'm working, what time to be ready for to be picked up and am always in communication with my supervisor if I need assistance. College transport is always pre arranged so i don't need to worry about booking trains or taxis etc.
I recieved a lot of support and I continue to be supported as I progress. They make sure you are learning and getting on well with the apprenticeship and my apprenticeship co ordinator is often in contact making sure everything is ok with my health and at work. We, as apprentices, get on site visits where we get re assured that we can talk to them if we come across any problems and we also talk about how the apprenticeship is going and if I am struggling with any work or anything at college.
I recieve loads of support and am always being checked on to make sure I am keeping up with everything and not struggling. We have meetings with our tutors privately in lesson where they ask us how we would do certain stuff on site and then check how we are getting along at work as well as college. I always know what I am supposed to be doing at college so I would say I recieve very good support.
It helps a lot as we not only do practical at college where they teach us slowly so we understand why and how we are doing everything that we are and we also do theory where we learn about everything we need to know. Our tutor always checks to make sure we are ok and that we understand what we are supposed to be doing.
Once a year the company does a charity activity that you can voluntarily get involved in with other workers. Also at special events such as Christmas the company funds each depot to have a Christmas meal with other colleagues and to enjoy time with your co workers outside of work.
Yes
Because they are a very good employer that makes sure you are progressing, they look after you inside and outside of work which is shown by the mental health scheme you can join if you are struggling, you can buy shares through the company and can also control your pension easily. There is many benefits to working with SSE and everyone in the company is very friendly and easy to work with.
Don't be nervous when you start as everyone is very friendly and a lot of the people who you will be working with started also from an apprenticeship so they know exactly how you are feeling. You quickly adapt to working with everyone and very quickly becomes normal, be yourself and take all th information you are given in as it will help you get through the apprenticeship easier
