Associate Review

My day to day role consists of many different tasks. We work closely on client accounts, testing and finding discrepancies in financials. The work in which we do has a high involvement with numbers as well as trying to maintain a good client experience with the good services that we provide.

Since joining EY, I have vastly developed as an individual and the people who you come in contact with real have a positive benefit upon you and what you do next time. You build a lot of confidence and baseline skills which set you up really well for your future career at the firm.

I highly enjoy the programme, as there is such a exceptionally high standard of learning which takes place, not only in the office but in college too. I can honestly say there is not a day, where I don't learn something new. I personally highly enjoy establishing new connections with people who I have never met before as everyday you meet someone different.

I think the structure of the programme is well built. The induction to the firm, to college and into your working teams is almost seamless and you feel as if you slot right in as soon as you join. You are fully informed of what is available and is accessible by you and you begin building your career!

Support is very easily to get at EY. Absolutely anyone and everyone is willing to help you out of any situation whether that is exams, college, a task you don't quite understand because everyone recognises that they were once in the same position as you. So, getting support from others is very easy achieved.

Support from the training provider is highly accessible. They have academic tutors who are on call the majority of the week (including weekends!) to answer any questions you may have in regards to your academic qualification. This is extremely useful closer to taking your exams and it helps as you don't feel as though you are totally alone in understanding a specific topic.

I feel at first, the training you receive will be not be as recognisable in relation to how it is applied at work & so it may feel as though what you are learning does not apply. However, this is not the case as you begin to connect the dots & you eventually find that what you have learnt indeed does make sense and is found in so many areas during your working day.

There are so many extra-curricular activities that you could do at work! There is a number of sports teams which are run throughout the week and charity events which everyone can get involved in. Networking events are also very widely available as well as many events which allow you to travel abroad!

I would recommend a friend to EY not only because of the apprenticeship side but also because it is such a good place to work. The culture there is highly dynamic and there is a strong view upon diversity and inclusiveness within the firm so it is very appealing to everyone which also makes everyday fun and enjoyable.

If you are applying to join EY, be yourself as being unique is your added advantage to the next person who is applying. Also, do your research and become more engrained with the industry which EY work in by being more aware of the issues faced in the financial sector and in the news as this will build your base of your knowledge.
