As i am currently a first year i am in college full time at Derwentside College working through my PEO and HNC. So on a Monday we do a full day of HNC work in the classroom then the rest of the week is PEO which is split up between practical and some computer work.
Since starting my apprenticeship I have learned a lot more hands on skills such as tooling and using a vairety of machinery and how these canbe transferred from a college workshop into an actual workplace that will allow me to progress through my apprenticeship and into a career.
I really enjoy the apprenticeship, as the way it is set out you have a chance to visit and work in many different departments so you can see what you enjoy and what area you would like to be in if you choose to stay on with Cummins at the end of your time.
As previously mentioned with the rotations in the apprenticeship it is all very well laid out with clear contacts when finding who to speak to about moving departments and the constant contact you have with your peers.
Yes you will have a lot of correspondence with the manager and often weekly catch ups with him to let him know what work you've done and how you've found it.
Yes
Its a great place to work and all the other employees are welcoming and very helpful so you will never feel alone or stuck.
Just be yourself, be confident.
