  • My role is to progress problem records that are created from live fails through the mainframe batch. Requires me to have a good level of understanding of the overall team and its jobs that run.

  • I have learnt many programming languages, learnt about IMS, DB2, and Mainframe system.

  • I really enjoy the apprenticeship, though I feel a lot of the University side of things are not well managed by the HR department.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the programme is simple, 4 years at university where I must get a 2:1 degree to complete the apprenticeship.

  • I get a lot of support from my team for work based issues, though regarding the University issues it can be difficult for issue to be sorted fast.

  • University provide a lot of support for all university based issues as well as providing specific tutors for issues

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My university work and training provides no help to my day to day work, nor have I used any of the skills have I developed at uni at work.

  • There are many citizenship events at university that I can take part in that are available throughout all the year

  • The experience and pay is extremely good for young people


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Be yourself and don't try to be the person they are expecting as it will not work out when they see that you are not how you first came accross
