i perform daily reporting tasks for risk and control team withing in Barclays international , managing the actions from these tasks. working with multiple teams and stakeholders throughout the bank. i also manage supplier relations raising critical PO coverage for our systems that we use. whilst also doing a firebrand course, level 4 data analyst.
I have not learned anything new, my IT skills have improved through continuous daily use for example Excel, word, power point and outlook. i already had strong verbal communication skills due previous job but my written communication skills have improved when sending emails. learning the language of the bank has been the most difficult aspect.
i really do enjoy my actual job and the team i work in, everyday there are different problems to solve, teams to talk to, manage actions set deadlines. i do not enjoy the apprenticeship side of this programme. i do not rate firebrand! i see them as a try and pass the mark not actually teaching of anything. they do not listen to you. ask ridiculous questions (i can understand this might be a government/external influence) no experience is the same for multiple apprentices. i would advise any company/apprentice/person to avoid their courses!
inside my team the structure is great, they understand all my extra work that needs completing and what resources i need for this and how they can help me study / learn etc. i see no structure from firebrand other than dates for course, which they are happy to give details on seeing as they are paid handsomely for them. the rest of the time it is quiet, no interaction, no help.
my immediate team are great, they are the only reason i have stayed! as i would really like to work with them as a proper colleague in the future, they have organised me sessions with teams throughout the organisation to explain, do walk through s and teach me additional information. the apprenticeship team, i dont understand what they do. they change the requirements a year into the process, i do not feel like i could contact them for any needs. personally i have felt no benefit from them. my team are the only reason i have got this far and why i have stayed. i would give 10 stars if just rating my immediate team.
Minimal. you have to constantly ask for help. they do not understand anything. the mentor is useless, what is his purpose? the requirements change from apprentice to apprentice. the course you go away on are rushed and based solely on passing an exam not learning the material. they are crammed into a few days where you sit in a hot stuffy classroom for several hours a day. 0800 start 1230 lunch, 1300 start again, 1530 break, 1600 start again, 2000 finish for dinner, extra curriculum activity for the evening. not what i call suitable for learning anything!
in my current role within my Job my training qualification as a level 4 data analyst will have absolute no impact in my job as i do not do any of the things required in my day to day role. it could help me in the future apply for different areas however i wouldn't feel confident in doing this as i have not learned anything about how to be a competent analyst
Barclays have a very diverse community and there are extra curricular activities ranging from support groups, running clubs, knitting clubs, book and movies clubs, social events, networking events, outside speakers from companies like apple google amazon doing discussion on cloud computing etc. get 2 days a year to take part in charity events and matched funding for anything you raise.
No
I feel like this question is too broad. would i recommend Barclays as a full time employer - yes, great environment, pay, security, make a difference. would i recommend Barclays as an apprenticeship - no, worst experince i have had, luckily im not fresh off the block and can operate and already work, i feel like a younger less experienced person might find this more difficult.
Be yourself, confidence is important. if you dont know something be honest, people who are interviewing usually know what they are talking about this means they will tell instantly if you are lying or are trying to guess your way through a question. this also shows that you are comfortable admitting you dont know something and can ask for help.
