  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I take calls off members who can be broken down at home or on the roadside, these members may need upgrades which I can also process, and also understand every members different circumstances when they call through, also dealing with previous past calls which also need more looking in to.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to treat different scenarios with members with different outcomes, which meets good customer service however meeting the AA's policies so that members aren't receiving different financial and inequality outcomes in the end. I have learned how to upgrade policies and learn a lot more about the AA, now I've had further training in the business so my skills have progressed.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme as it gives you the opportunity to learn so much on the job so that it goes back to the learning which we have off the job, I feel this is equalled out perfectly so both on the job and off the job experience comes handy in certain scenarios which I wouldn't understand previously.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • it is very well structured as TheAA offer every bit of learning support possible, the programme have given us useful sources for our learning and also helping us keep track of learning over the past month going into our potential interviews for the full time job working at The AA

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive a significant amount of support where is necessary and also they motivate us to think more in circumstances which we have been taught. TheAA challenge us when necessary but always giving full support and guidance for our learning on the scheme. TheAA also provide us with equipment and a nice working environment too.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive a lot of support from our training provider Catch22 and from Mark who leads this learning for us, whenever we experience any problems, Mark always supports us through it and gives us a guidance to what we should be doing while also challenging our knowledge of what we already know.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Our training provider have given us many resources concerning customer service and general maths and English for those who didn't pass at a GCSE level. Having the resources for customer service skills have given me a wider knowledge on how to approach different situations when taking my calls at TheAA

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • On arrival at TheAA we were invited to social gatherings outside of work and also the Christmas party, however due to unforeseen circumstances, there hasn't been any social gathering opportunities since then as the coronavirus has taken its toll in everyday life, hopefully there will be chances in the future.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend TheAA because they have plenty of job progression within the business, they offer full support, training and guidance to all employees to develop them into the best call handlers. They give strong feedback where necessary and tell you what you could've done better or improved on in your calls.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The AA?
  • Having the opportunity to work at TheAA on the apprenticeship scheme gives you the chance to learn and develop your skills in customer service and call handling, this job gives you vital experience whether you're looking for a job internally or externally in the world of work, working at TheAA is a really good thing to have on your CV.
