I am currently working within the HR team at BBC Wales. I have been able to get involved with a variety of different projects so far in this placement including a TUPE project and a working from home forum. My previous placement was in business finance where my role included attending finance meetings, taking action notes, analysing spreadsheet data.
I have developed skills around communication, both digitally and orally through voicing my opinions in meetings and learning how to construct emails. I feel that my skills in professionalism have increased and I have learnt more about the working environment
I really enjoy working at the BBC, as a creative organisation it is a vibrant and fun place to work. I have had so many opportunities in the workplace to get involved with different projects and events.
The programme is well structured and we are given adequate time off to study for our degrees. The course is a mix of face to face workshops, online webinars and one to one coaching sessions with a skills coach.
The BBC is supportive and within my placement everyone is eager to help me understand more about the organisation . I am given study days leading up to assignments and every week I am allocated time to study.
Skills coaches give one to one guidance and support.. Module tutors and leaders are easily contactable and are always happy to put in a call if you are struggling with an aspect of a module. The ACE team give support around academic writing, structuring essays and referencing.
The Work based learning module is a good opportunity to relate learning back to the workplace. Some of the theories and models taught relate closely to my role whereas some are not always relevant.
There are lots of different groups that you can get involved with at the BBC, for example the Young Talent Network, Women in Stem, strategy groups to name a few.
