As a Motor Vehicle Technician Apprentice at Plant Oxford, my main focus is to gain as much knowledge surrounding the vehicles that are produced here as possible. This is so that if an issue were to occur during production, whether it be an electrical fault, a mechanical problem, or an issue with the fluids, I would be able to identify it and resolve it in a efficient manner. To further develop my knowledge, every 6 weeks I go to the BMW Academy in Reading. Each visit I learn about a different aspect of the car - ranging from Braking Systemts to Transmissions to Hybrid Electrics.
My knowledge of tools and how to correctly handle them has improved massively. I've also been given the opportunity to learn a second language which is amazing!
Overall, I love my job. To work for such a large and professional company is great. The training provided is excellent, the management staff are supportive and you get many benefits!
The training provided at the BMW Academy is excellent. The facility itself is a perfect training environment and the tutors are incredibly supportive. We're provided with online learning materials throughout the apprenticeship which aids us in successfully completing the course.
As an apprentice, you recieve a lot of support both proffesionally and personally which is great.
Babcock offers a lot of support throughout the apprenticeship. They keep up-to date with current coursework typically checking to see how everything's going weekly with a more in-depth review once every 2-3 months. Whenever there has been a query regarding our learning or qualification as a whole, Babcock has always been able to help.
The training provided has broadened my knowledge of a motor vehicle a huge amount. Time spent at the BMW Academy is always productive, providing me with the necessary information required to excell at my job in the future and the online learning is very informative and easy to understand. Without the current structure BMW have in place for their apprentices, it would take much longer to absorb all the information provided.
I'd say one of the largest social events for the apprentices is to participate in the Cowley Road Carnival. Apprentices get together (with the help of a designer) to come up with a way to transform a MINI for the parade!
Yes
Combining; the support system, training facilities, work environment and company benefits, the BMW Group is a great company to work for.
I'd say be positive, confident and open-minded.
