my day to day roles include shadowing skilled engineers as well as completing role based projects. these can range from hands on work such as fault finding and technical projects to computer work which can include system monitoring, computer based learning, software learning and many more. i enjoy my day to day tasks.
I have learnt many new skills, every day is different hence you are required to adapt to the ever changing situations. My role includes lots of problem solving however the majority of the time is spent communicating with people, hence my interpersonal skills have heavily developed as well as my engineering.
I enjoy my program a lot more now i have breached the first year. It can be difficult to enjoy every day as it tends to vary based on who you are with, wether that is management or maintenance men. some are great and some not hence you have to have keen social skills to enjoy most days.
The program is well organised in the sense that we meet the requirements however it is very difficult to do any extra learning as you can be hindered by the vastness of the company. BMW is a huge company and hence you can become a small cog in a large machine which tends to leave you with some unstructured days.
if you need support, it is definitely there all you have to do is ask. BMW is probably one of the best companies for individual support in my opinion. the health care is unmatched and they have fantastic on site services so you feel very cared for as an employee
I receive a lot of support, whether it is with classes or paperwork. there are always people here to help. you have to be pro-active but the guidance is good and typically any help you need is really only a phone call away. although people are busy they tend to make time for you
I would say it is slightly targeted however as the working environment is ever changing it can feel like the course and work fall out of parallel. The other issue is that within 5 years your qualification could be outdated hence it is necessary to constantly be learning and improving your knowledge and skills.
There are a few extra curricular activities. you have to be pro-active to engage with them and get on with people but they are there. ive seen adverts for football clubs, cooking clubs, hiking challenges etc. typically if you put out an advert someone will respond as we are part of such a large company
Yes
I would recommend my apprenticeship as it has fantastic benefits and great pay but i would warn them about feeling of being a small cog in a large machine. Some days you tend to feel a bit left out but all in all most days are enjoyable and are exciting
I would advise you to be pro-active and punctual. BMW runs like clockwork and there is no room for sloppiness. If you are lucky enough to get an interview make sure you turn up early, prepared, and well dressed as these are key qualities that BMW looks for in future employees.
