My role is that of an Account manager. It is my job to carry out KYC, CIFAS and bridger checks as well as a brief credit review to ensure that a deal put forward by a brokerage is eligible for a loan. I communicate all decision to the brokers, both rejects and approvals. I also contact the customers and assist them to drawdown the funds.
Before starting, my knowledge surrounding credit and banking was very minimal. During my time, I have developed this extensively and I am very comfortable in this area. I have also developed my IT skills in order to meet the demands of my role.
In terms of the programme, I think there is sometimes issues with BPP and their organisational skills. However, I do thoroughly enjoy being on the RBS apprentice programme. Having discussed the importance of 'connections' within the bank during our introduction trip to Gogaburn, we have all stayed in contact and made very good bonds too.
On paper, the programme is very structured - we have a timeline of dates set out. However, there has been a few instances where BPP have muddled up dates and times. On one occasion, we were due to have a full webinar, replacing a face-to-face day, however no one actually tuned in to deliver the session. This was problematic as it meant we had to take another day off from out day to day roles.
RBS/NatWest are brilliant in terms of providing support. My line manager is constantly checking in and helping where possible. I have been faced with major health issues lately and found that RBS have provided an excellent support network. However, my only criticism of the support on the apprentice programme is that I am not being given the opportunity to explore different teams within Esme.
I have quarterly reviews with my training provider and she checks in where possible if my health is poor. Other than that, I have the webinars.
I do not think the apprentice programme helps me perform better in my role. A lot of the missions, I am struggling to relate to the criteria as I do not perform this in my day to day role.
I attend all social events where possible and I am currently planning a charity day
