  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The job mostly involved admin work however you are supposed to go on one customer meeting per week with a relationship manager. daily tasks include managing excesses, identifying possible solutions for customers, answering customer queries, creating meeting packs, ensuring financial information is up to date, completing mandatory learning, doing interactive and proactive calls with customers. as you grow in the job you will be trained on the lending and credit side of applications as well.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i have developed my writing skills and numeric skills. the role involves communicating with customers via email and the phone and once you receive training it involves performing lots of calculations (only for training purposes as RM's will do the main lending calculations. Basic skills such as team working, time management and networking skills will also be worked on.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i like the bank as there many opportunities available and the bank offers many perks. i wish the programme allowed you to have rotations between departments so you gain further insight into different roles and understand where you fit in and what roles interest you the most. unfortunately being stuck in one role doesnt enhance our skills and give us much competitive advantage when looking for different jobs. the other problem is you may be stuck in a department where the people aren't friendly and there is a lot of office politics

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Not well structured at all. BPP focuses on too much theory and really wastes your time instead of giving you that time to do more within your role. i find the programme to be very time consuming and irrelevant in terms of the assessments we have to do. apart from the PBC Exam all the basic assessments from BPP add no value to my role or future.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • i receive enough support, but you have to ask for it. if you dont push you wont receive the support you need. if you constantly push you will receive alot of support. but i think it depends on your managers too.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • i am very disappointed in the training provider BPP as i find their assessments to be a waste of time and a way to just tick boxes. i wish the assessments were more practical and involved doing things that would actually help in my role instead of all the pointless theory and questions on what i thing my strengths and weaknesses are

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • i dont feel i gain anything through the training provider as its just a waste of time however the PBC exam set by the bank is a great qualification which i believe will add alot of value to my skills and CV in the future

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • i think this depends on the department you are in. my department does a lot of extra curricular activities including charity events, well being days, networking events and its a fun day out for the team and very insightful.

  • Yes

  • i think there are opportunities to grow once and get different jobs across the bank


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • it really depends on the department you get into. some of my colleagues work with great people and this makes it a better working environment whereas others work in departments where there's a lot of politics and thus making it a difficult environment to work in. on a whole the bank offers alot of opportunities so worst case you can apply for a different role.
