I manage a team of 6 people across 10 workshops. Interact with students and academic staff daily with AV and Photography workshops. My role involves validating risk assessments, staff training, student training as well as induction generation. Along with department budget management, workshop development and staff PDRs.
I have attended a lot of internal and external training within my role to allow the transition from creative technician into management. My role is challenging and demanding especially given the current Covid19 situation.
The programme is very enjoyable. There's a lot of work and it is challenging, which is expected at this level, but I underestimated how much work there would be alongside a full time job. Excellent organisation skills are definitely needed. The Covid19 situation has prevented on site interaction. but the course has adapted well to the delivery of online content.
The programme is well organised and supported well within Moodle and has been adapted well to online delivery. There is support available and the information is clear. The difficulty is the overlap of the unit delivery and the assignment completion. This takes some getting used to especially with a full time job and the unusual circumstances at the moment preventing physical attendance. The staff are great and very helpful and knowledgeable in their subject areas.
My management team supported me doing the course, but the current circumstances with Covid19 have meant that my teaching/assignment schedule hasn't been fully respected by them, which has been challenging. I've not had many discussions about the course with my management team/mentor but this may change when we return to site. I have to be very clear when I need to do certain work that is part of my course.
The support has been very helpful from everyone involved in the MBA course. It is a challenging course but an enjoyable experience. There is clear support on any support and guidance you may need and where to find it.
The theory is inspiring. The subject matter is very beneficial to my role long term and on a day-to-day basis when managing my team. The link between theory and real life examples is also insightful along with listening to the perspectives of others.
There are extracurricular activities but given my work and MBA schedule I don't really have the time to engage. Plus these are all on hold due to Covid19.
Yes
They have adapted well to challenging circumstances.
The application process is clear. The interview process wasn't an awful experience, the staff made it a comfortable process. There are opportunities to understand if MMU is the right place for you or not and it's advisable to engage in these sessions, to ask questions and clarify any concerns.
