  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • A typical day for an electrical apprentice is attending college (For the first year everyday) and being trained in certain areas such as Bench work, electronics, milling, turning, welding, CAD etc. You also do classroom work such as technical drawing, health and safety, Mechanical principles and more. On holidays you return to the company where you will shadow other members to learn more about your role and will be given tasks according to this which can be fixing harnesses used on test rigs, working on PCB boards, testing components using vibration chambers, setting up tests and supporting other projects in the company. Rolls Royce is a company that cares about the well being of its workers and ensures that everyone is looked after and checked up on. Its an accepting company for all types of characters and no one would ever be allowed to feel out of place.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The apprenticeship is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Work to lufr balance is great, The quality of the education is good and is at a level where it doesnt feel like education but more of a relaxed work environment than the usual sit and write format. At company, you really get to see the ins and outs of how a company the size of Rolls Royce is run. Projects are always interesting and facilities are of very high quality.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Theres never a moment when you don't know what is going to happen next. The programme is structured in a way that you always know what is going to happen next such as what you will be learning next, with who you will be learning, who you will be taught by, when the lessons will finish, how long the period of teaching is and also what is expected of you whilst learnung. This is very simmilar at the company too and follows the same sort of format.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • You recieve a lot of support from the employer including bonuses, extra help, points of contact for support, general check ins and much much more. The company is structured so that no one is out of place and there is always someone to talk to when you need to. The company also pays for a service which can be used annonoymously by workers to speak to someone on the phone when they feel down. I feel this alone shows how much the company cares.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Theres mental health first aiders everywhere. Always help whenever you need it and support everywhere. I havent came across a tutor who isnt willing to help and they genuinely want to help you too as you can tell they really do care about the future of the industry and this refelcts in the level of support you recieve from the training provider. Lessons are taught fully and nothing is left uncovered. You will always feel as if you have learnt all you can.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Rolls Royce is one of the best decisions I have made. It puts confidence into the future of my career and theres a real sense of success when working for Rolls Royce as everyone is striving to work better everyday. Its highly unlikely you'll see someone not working hard. The companu is supportive and very helpful in aiding you in the apprenticeship. I would 100% suggest a Rolls Royce apprenticrship to anyone who is interested. You wont be disapointed.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
  • Know your stuff! Rolls Royce love knowledge. When you apply demonstrate that you know your stuff and have a good understanding of aviation and gas turbine engines prior to applying. Always show an interest every second and always be willing to learn. This is Rolls Royce. You are competing against thousands of people for this role which means you must set yourself apart. Demonstrate a past time when you have used engineering such as working on cars, bikes, models etc anything hands on. Make sure your teamwork skills are amazing. Never leave someone out of the group and ensure you dont speak over people as that will annoy the interviewer. Have confidence and be honest. If you cant answer a question say "Im not too sure but I will do some research and get back to you ASAP" dont try and hide that you dont know as after all we are all learning as apprentices. Finally, always have an open mind and take all the opportunities you can.
