In my daily role I am a computer programmers whose job it is to create various modules and test them to ensure they work to the clients needs. I work in a agile environment in my own agile team in which we have a scrum master, 2 programmers and 2 testers - working collaboratively with the product owner. My main responsibilities are to ensure my code conforms with the coding standards and to have good time management / self management skills.
Whilst being in this role I have learnt various technical skills such as how to code in C, Java and also use SQL to query databases. I have attended training courses on C and SQL - and I am hoping to attend one on Java in the not to distant future. As well as this my Microsoft Office skills are improving a lot as I use all of the software on a regular basis both in my placement and at university.
I feel I have found myself a very balanced environment to gain good qualifications and good experience - therefore making my programme very enjoyable. I have a good team to work in on my placement who are helping me to develop and this can only be good going forward. I think the apprentice scheme has over exceeded in terms of my expectations.
Accenture show that we are valued in terms of recognition from line managers and also in the recent laddering process we were given amazon vouchers in relation to how good we have done in our role. This makes you feel as if you are seen as important members of staff like their permanent staff. In addition to this I am always involved in team meetings and asked to contribute as many ideas / thoughts as I can.
I feel the programme is very well, however, with admittance from Accenture because we are the first cohort there are times when things may have been done better - but overall i have no complains.
I have monthly meetings with my NVQ assessor as well as being able to access them by email with any questions I may have. Also, I am at uni once a week with the ability to speak to my lectures via email with any questions. This is good as it means we are always in contact and are able to keep track of my progress. All of the tutors are very helpful and want to see us succeed.
We recieve the maximum support possible to ensure that we can pass our apprenticeship from Accenture. They work very closely with each apprentice and we also have an apprentice lead who we can direct any issues too who works full time in that role.
We earn a very good salary for an apprentice as we are paid the normal minimum wage instead of an apprentice minimum wage. The Company pay our uni fees which is a massive help and I feel overall the pay we do get is good for an apprentice.
Accenture are a very good company to work for with regards to the social aspect. There are alot of opportunities to volunteer (with us receiving 3 volunteer days a year) and they have their own life@ time whos job it is to focus on staff engagement - hosting a variety of different events such as tickets too football / rugby / basketball matches and cinema tickets. There are also arrange 7aside matches.
Yes
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Accenture and I feel they are a company who would like to see any member of their staff achieve the best they can and really push you to do better. There are a whole heap of opportunities to be had and this is a great environment to work in.
To show a strong interest in ICT - be very determined and to just be yourself. I think if you do these three things then you will do well at Accenture. The interviews / Assessment days are a good day to showcase your skills so be confident. Showcasing team working skills is vitally important as a lot of the work we do requires working within a team.
