Job Title- Trainee Electrical Designer. My daily tasks include as-building, back drafting and copying drawings from paper to AutoCAD when no CAD file is available. I've had some exposure to the PDMS model. I work on the Nexen project for Amec. I haven't yet started my college course yet for the Diploma in Design & Draughting.
New skills include - AutoCAD, PDMS design, Development of existing skills - Microsoft word, Excell Training Courses so far - AutoCAD, PDMS design, PDMS draft, P&ID awareness
I can't comment on the programme yet as we are yet to start.
I feel valued my Amec as they seem keen to put their employees through the various courses.
I haven't properly started the programme yet, although I started the job in September so I can't comment properly but so far it seems a bit disorganised how we still haven't met the lecturer that we will be working with from Dundee & Angus College. I am aware of other companies who are putting trainees through the same scheme as Amec, and these trainees have already met their lecturers and are preparing for their first observation. I have also noticed that on the training courses, we seem to get the last spaces available when others have their courses booked for a while in advance.
I haven't met my training provider (Dundee and Angus College) yet so I can't comment on this question.
I do receive help from people in my team if I ask for it. When I encounter a problem I find the juniors and trainees approachable and easy to understand since they have been through the same in prior years. The HR team on my project are knowledgeable and happy to help anytime I need. I think it would have been more beneficial if the buddies we were assigned worked in the same office as this would make it easier to ask for help instead of having to email or lync them as this makes it difficult for them to understand what I am working on.
My salary meets my costs
The graduates are good at organising social and sport events outside work. Christmas was a good social time where nights out were organised.
Yes
The application process was easy to understand. The interview was well planned out and I found the second day of the inductions useful. I've been told of many different opportunities we could have in Amec in the future years so I look forward to these happening. I would have liked to have been warned that it would take a while to get into any proper work, and have been told about the process we go through to get enrolled in the college, as this seems to be taking some time.
