I work in a HR department as a HR Administrator my daily tasks involve being the first point of contact for any HR queries pertaining to policies, recruitment, onboarding and off-boarding of employees. I manage employees information and HR data daily, as such, I am responsible for storing and ensuring the information provided is accurate.
I have learnt new skills within my role such as being able to support managers with their queries by directing them to the appropriate policy, generating reports for management and I have developed my customer service skills. In addition to the new skills developed, I am currently working towards my level 3 CIPD accredited HR practise course that is sponsored by my organisation.
I really enjoy my programme, the topics taught are in line with my everyday tasks at work, allowing me to put my theoretical knowledge into practise. My tutor is very supportive and available when required, it is clear she has a passion for teaching and puts in a lot of effort for myself and my peers to understand what we are being taught and are able to obtain the information we require.
The programme is organised and structured, for example, at the induction, I received a programme schedule detailing the dates and times of the workshops, the deadline dates for our assignments and when our reviews will take place. Even with the pandemic, Interserve were able to adapt and provided our lessons on the dates as previously advised.
I receive a lot of support from my manager as well as colleagues. The senior HR advisor at our organisation is my mentor- I can ask him questions about issues I may be unsure of and take directions from him. My manager and I have regular one-to-ones to discuss my progress at work and with my course. My HR department are always available to support me with my research projects and provide guidance.
I receive support through my tutor who is available by phone or email. My tutor supports me if I need extra guidance without complaint. In addition, Acaia has an online Student Hub where materials and resources for the modules are accessible. This can be a point of reference when writing assignments or if wanting to prepare for an upcoming module or professional discussion.
I believe the qualification helps me perform better in my role because the topics taught can be applied to my day to day tasks. For example, the first module was titled developing an effective HR practitioner, this module involved us completing a CIPD self assessment and creating our own CPD. The results of the self assessment impacted my CPD and through this I have been able to apply my theoretical knowledge whilst at work.
