Customer Field Engineer My role involves the servicing and repairs of computer hardware, at the North Harbour Data centre. I work on a huge variety of both IBM and third party manufacturer machines. We have several large clients with accounts here, and I am part of a team that maintains their hardware.
I have learned so much in my new job role, I think it's impossible to come in to a role like this knowing what to expect, especially having never seen the inside of a data centre, I have also received several IBM certifications for servicing hardware, including XIV, DS8000 and xSeries.
I find the apprenticeship programme a little difficult at times, when I am trying to juggle my day to day role with my apprenticeship responsibilities. That said, I work as part of a great team at North Harbour, and I am provided with lots of support.
I feel like a very valued member of my team, and have received feedback in the past about it.
My induction was good at the start, if not a little full on, I have had lots of hands on hardware courses since joining, which has helped me to excel in my role. The only thing I would perhaps criticize, is the amount of processes I have to complete that I'm either not sure or aware of.
I have a mentor in my team, and we work closely on a daily basis.
We are treated as an IBM employee would be on the whole.
Very competitive salary, there were some initial problems regarding my location and travel costs, which were out of my means, I have since moved locations.
Not that I have experienced yet.
Yes
Great company to work for, and the opportunity to do whatever you like.
Very tough application process, but you'll be fine if you do your research and approach it with a confident attitude. Just make sure you have a rough idea of what you want to do within IBM and stick to it.
