My role is centered around IT security and networking, An example of my day-to-day would be monitoring and management of network components such as firewalls.
Throughout my apprenticeship, thus far, I have been able to develop my communication skills with networking and socialising with my colleagues as well as analysis and problem-solving skills within my project. I have also gained technical skills in new technologies like cloud, obtaining certifications from multiple cloud providers including AWS and Azure, and improved my programming skills in python and SQL.
I really enjoy my program, Accenture provides lots of support for you to grow your skills and expand your knowledge, being in an environment where everyone is passionate about their jobs and willing to help is really motivating.
I found that the programme is well structured, as an apprentice, we're allocated 20% of our time to our studies during the work week which I find useful when I have an assignments or need to revise for exams. In terms of support, there are meetings with career counsellors about your progression and long terms goals, and technical mentors to help with learning new technologies. Even within my project team, I've received lots of support and encouragement.
I've received plenty of support from Accenture, the general attitude towards support and guidance of any issues is great. I found that everyone is accepting and welcoming within the office, if you have a question on anything there's no shortage on people willing to offer help and support. Besides my technical mentor, my manager has also really helped me learn more about networking and security principles, my team as a whole has been a great help. Besides colleagues, other apprentices are also very knowledgable and can offer support about university work.
QA offers weekly office hours sessions where the tutors can help individuals with questions and queries about their modules. Since the lockdown, QA now offers weekly virtual classroom sessions on Webex. These sessions focus on understanding and testing your knowledge of the weekly course content, which has been really helpful. It's a great opportunity to ask questions to the tutor and learn from other peers. There are also regular calls with a skills coach from QA about the progression of your studies, how you're working towards your targets and goals.
I found that I can use the knowledge I've gained from some of the courses into practice in my work which helps give them a real-life application, but mostly the courses have given me more understanding and an appreciation of the kind of work which some of my other colleagues do.
As a whole, there are plenty of extra-curricular activities in Accenture. Although the activities offered are limited in this location, there are plenty of events organised in Warwick like apprentice events.
Yes
I would recommend Accenture to a friend because of the friendly environment, and how much support I’ve received since joining. It is such a diverse environment where you can meet people from different backgrounds and with various skills to learn from.
A tip I'd give is, be open to asking questions, there is no judgement for asking a question and no silly questions either, being curious and open to learning new things is encouraged.
