Skills in Tivoli Asset Discovery for Distributed software and Tivoli Endpoint Manager.
Work: The work is lacking any kind of challenge, I applied for a technical role but what I am doing is severely lacking any technical activities even after a year. Original PDM, I unfortunately felt, did very little to help address the issue or acknowledge as such. General approach is to suggest I ask for more challenging work, something which I have done. Team: The team I am in is great, everyone was friendly and welcoming when first joining and still are. I am in a virtual team so most conversation is over instant messaging. Company Culture: The company culture is good, I enjoy the atmosphere of working at IBM. Meet Expectations: I enjoy working at IBM, the work, is much less than what I was expecting, the overall idea of working in a virtual team etc was something I was not expecting. Enjoy it: Overall yes, despite problems I enjoy working at IBM when given something technical.
Overall this is the main area I feel IBM fails. It is mentioned numerous times hard work is only a small part of being valued, shouting about the work that you do is highly suggested by most people you speak to which for someone who just likes getting on with work is difficult to adjust to even after a year.
The apprenticeship is very well structured the course at the start gets you straight into IBM and sets a precedent for the Foundation courses being really good enjoyable experiences.
A large amount of support is provided for Foundation based courses and education as courses are booked and tend to be week long sessions.
Overall for the most part you are left to do the work or not do the work set for you, you are encouraged to manage yourself with this site of the job and if the work is not complete it is down to yourself. I feel this is a fairly good approach which provides a little more freedom but still makes sure work is completed when required.
Living Costs: I am perfectly able to rent suitable accommodation on my salary. Travel Costs: All travel is covered by IBM Daily Costs: All daily costs are covered by IBM Social Costs: There aren't overally a lot of Social costs attributed to the job
There are a lot of giveback activities etc..
Yes
Yes and No. For an apprenticeship the salary is very good and I know a lot of people very happy with there work/experiences at IBM. No because I can not personally recommend my experience at IBM which I feel has been overall a feeling of being forgotten.
The application process is lengthy and challenging but my advice would be to be genuine and not try and "beat the game" as it were. As a fellow applicant such people were easily noticed so I would assume they were to the assessors.
